When people find out I am a song writer they often ask two questions- what comes first, the music or the lyrics and are the lyrics about you?

In answer to the first question with me it really depends. Sometimes I get a melody that I put words to or some times it’s about what I want to say.

Our first single from the album Let’s Dance started with the tune and originally had quite different lyrics. The lyrics usually do change this way round as they are just funny ones to help with the composition. I can’t quite remember what they were or even if I have a copy anywhere.

Man (One of a Kind) started out called “Child” and was about cherishing children as the future is in their hands and what they see through their eyes. I may yet return to that theme in future, but the backing track changed so much and was so funky in comparison to my composition arrangement that I felt the lyrics were wrong for it and it is now as it stands.

“Rumours Of Love” is interesting in that the melody and lyrics were written in tandem and nothing much changed afterward.

I really take care with the lyrics and always try a fresh approach each time but whether I have succeeded or not is entirely up to the listener to decide.

But in answer to the personal content question, of course there is a little of me and my experiences in everything. I’ve loved and lost, I’ve thought it time to move my feet in relationships and at times love has felt so good but not every sentiment is about me. I’m working to fit words to melody and to put things from a female perspective but I am also giving a little of me away each time.
